HUS High School for Gifted Students (HSGS) celebrates its 10th anniversary, 55 years of tradition of Mathematics – Informatics Department, 35 years of tradition of Physics Department, and receives the title of Labor Hero.

In the morning of Nov 26th, 2020, a grand ceremony was held at Metri Hall (182 Luong The Vinh, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) to celebrate HSGS’s10th anniversary, 55 years of tradition of Mathematics – Informatics Department, 35 years of tradition of Physics Department, and receive the title Labor Hero.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Le Cong Loi, Principal of the HGGS, said the school was formerly a class specialized in mathematics, founded on the 14th of September, 1965. Throughout the history of HSGS, various scientists, officials, managers, whose work contributed greatly to the development of Vietnam, such as Prof. Dao Trong Thi, Prof. Tran Van Nhung, Prof. Dam Thanh Son, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau, were once its students.

HSGS’s students have marked their talent in the leading position of International Olympiad for High schoolers and in the admission list of Vietnam universities.

With their remarkable achievements, the Vietnam Government paid great praise and commendation to HSGS. The title Hero of Labor was awarded in 2005, 2015, 2017, and 2018 to HSGS’s different departments.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, the honor that HSGS receives is also the joy of VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, and as a whole, the joy of Vietnam education.

On this occasion, Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh awarded students and 14 teachers who achieved excellence in their work and study. 10 teachers were commended by Vietnam National University, 10 teachers and 3 students received the Phan Duc Chinh award in 2020.

High school for Gifted Students was founded on the 14th of June, 2010, by Decision No. 2695/QĐ-UBND of the People’s Committee of Hanoi. After the first ten years, HSGS was known as the “cradle” of talented students.

During the first ten years from its establishment, HSGS admitted over 4500 students, many of them graduated with honors and received medals from international competitions. HSGS’s students brought home 23 gold medals from International Olympiad competitions on the subject of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics, standing out among whom were Nguyen The Hoan - Mathematics Specialized Class of 2012 - 2015 won two gold medals consecutively;  Dinh Quang Hieu - Chemistry Specialized Class of 2015 - 2018, two times gold medalist; Bui Hong Duc, informatics specialized student of 2017-2020 class, two times gold medalist; Nguyen Phuong Thao, Biology Specialized student of 2015-2018 class, gold medalist in 2018 with the leading score; and Ngo Dang Quy, Mathematics Specialized student of 2019-2022, a first-ever gold medalist from Vietnam in 2020.
