On September 9th, 2021, Vietnam National University - Hanoi University of Science formally held the 2021 Closing Ceremony and awarded the Bachelor of Science degree to full-time students online. Today, Vietnam National University - University of Science (VNU - HUS) solemnly holds the Closing Ceremony and awards Bachelor of Science degrees to full-time students of QH.2017 in a special atmosphere and manner. This is the first time the Closing Ceremony has been held online; most newly graduated students can only witness events remotely on a computer because they have to comply with the regulations on social distancing.

Dear representatives, lecturers, and students!
The academic year of 2020-2021 saw the staff members and students of VNU - HUS starting to implement the Resolution of the 27th Party Congress of VNU - HUS and the Resolution of the 6th Party Congress of VNU. Despite the hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic, students and university staff did their best to overcome the obstacles, bringing VNU - HUS closer to the goal of becoming an advanced research university. Among the people who significantly contributed to the building and development of the university, students of QH.2017 did play a vital part.
Dear new graduates!
Four years ago, in August 2017, over 1500 candidates across the country were admitted to VNU - HUS, the leading university of Vietnam in the field of basic science. After the admission, many students continued to be admitted into Talent, Fast-Track, Advanced, and International Standard training programs. Some received scholarships to study in the United States, France, Canada, Russia, Japan, South Korea,...
In the past four years, unfortunately, some students had to stop studying because they did not meet the goals, quality, and criteria of the university. COVID - 19 also posed a great issue, preventing the academic progress of many students, especially in their graduation thesis. Therefore, there are now 1307 QH.2017 students and today, 332 of them are receiving their degrees:
- Number of students who graduate with distinction degrees: 24 (7.2%);
- Number of students who graduate with very good degrees: 102 (30,7%);
- Number of students who graduate with good degrees: 195 (58,8%);
- Number of students who graduate with average degrees: 11( 3,3%).
The number of students who have yet to receive their degrees: 975.
I would like to warmly congratulate the 332 new graduates. Hopefully, those students who have yet to be qualified for degrees will put more effort to graduate in the next batches.
Dear representatives, lecturers, and students!
VNU - HUS has always been one of the pioneering universities in the process of improving Vietnam’s educational quality. VNU - HUS is the first Southeast Asian university to be evaluated and accreditated by AUN-QA Standards, and is soon to catch up with advanced universities in the region and in the world. In the academic year 2020 – 2021, the university had implemented the accreditation for two training programs: Land Management and Materials, increasing the total number of AUN-QA accredited training programs to 13, 81.25% of the total 16 training programs. It is worth noting that in the academic year of 2020 - 2021, VNU - HUS started 5 new interdisciplinary training programs which attracted many students and had a high enrollment rate.
Among the 332 QH.2017 students graduating today, there are 60 from Talent, Advanced, International Standard, and Fast-Track programs. Some have received scholarships to study for their Master’s and Doctorate degree in the United States, France, Canada, Russia, Japan, South Korea. With the knowledge and skills accumulated in the last four years, I believe that you will perform well in prestigious universities across the world.

With the goal of becoming an advanced university, aside from a comprehensive innovation in training, VNU - HUS also puts an emphasis on students’ scientific research capability. Through this, students can acquire independent thinking, creativity, and group working skills.
QH.2017 students actively participated in scientific research and achieved good results. In the past few academic years, many research works of VNU - HUS students earned Scientific research at Ministry level (4-second prizes, 1 third prize, and 3 consolation prizes), VNU level (1 first prize, 1-second prize, 1 third prize), Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union in 2020 (1 Eureka award). There were 432 reports in VNU - HUS’ Student Science Conference in 2021, a 20% increase compared to 2020.
High achievements in study and research aside, VNU - HUS students also actively cultivate and improve their political qualities and Revolutionary morality; many students were admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam (18 students from QH.2017).
In particular, several students have been given full scholarships for postgraduate training by universities in France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore...or invited to work at research facilities and universities even before they graduate, such as:
- Cohort K62 of Natural Sciences Technology and Mathematics has Lê Quang Dũng who received a Master’s scholarship at Ecole Polytechnique, France; Hoàng Anh Quân and Đỗ Xuân Anh, who have been qualified to stay at the Faculty of Mathematics-Mechanics-Informatics as teaching assistants from September 2021.
- Cohort K62 of Natural Sciences Technology and Chemistry has Thái Ngọc Anh who received a high distinction scholarship from the French Embassy of France to study for a Master’s degree at ENS Paris-Saclay and Ecole Polytechnique, France; Hoàng Thị Hiếu, who is a recipient of a full-time Master scholarship to study at ENS Paris-Saclay and Ecole Polytechnique, France; Đỗ Tuấn Tú, who received SERP+ Erasmus Mundus full-time Master scholarship to study in France and Italy; Bùi Thị Trà My, who won a second-year master's scholarship in Environmental Chemistry in France sponsored by the Energy and Environment Fund.
- Cohort K62 of Talent Program in Biology international program has Trần Ngọc Mỹ Hoa, who is currently working as a research assistant consultant for CIFOR, Việt Nam; Đoàn Thùy Linh, currently working at Hanoi Medical University.
- Nguyễn Trần Thu Trà and Đỗ Thị Minh Hạnh, Cohort K62 of International Standard program in Biology, received a full-time Doctorate scholarship in South Korea.
Those are the fruits of your efforts. I offer my congratulations to you all, and I hope there will be more new graduates who have jobs in their respective majors or continuing their study in postgraduate programs.

You have been fortunate to study in a university that always takes high training quality as a goal to strive for. VNU - HUS faculty and researchers have always been affirmed at the leading position compared to universities in Vietnam and equal to many regional and international research universities. The university has many policies to help young staff to gain academic degrees and scientific titles as soon as possible. VNU - HUS now has employed 45.9% professors and associate professors, more than any university in Vietnam. The teaching staff here always take good care of their students’ development. Every growth, every achievement of you is a great source of encouragement for us. On this occasion, on the behalf of VNU - HUS management board, I would like to express my most sincere appreciation to teachers, administrators, and service staff for having actively participated in the training of QH.2017 students. I hope you will contribute much more to the education and training sector of Vietnam.
VNU - HUS is very proud of 332 students receiving their Bachelor of Science degrees today. You have successfully overcome the challenge in study and life, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. You have also brought pride to your family, relatives, and friends. We firmly place our trust in the new graduates who are “steadfast in thinking and rich in knowledge” and hope that you will have a successful career, whether you work in an academic environment, research laboratories, or technology enterprises.
You are just entering a new stage of life - the stage when you contribute to society. I hope you will further develop your professional competence in your expertise, foreign language, personal qualities, and other skills, according to VNU - HUS’ slogan: “knowledge, innovation, and social responsibility“, to contribute to the building and development of Vietnam, as well as raising the prestige for VNU - HUS.
We also hope that you will keep playing your role as the university’s alumni, keep a close connection with your lecturers, provide feedback and ideas to help improve the university’s training quality.
