On the morning of March 6, 2024, a delegation from the Institute of New Technology, University of Tokyo, Japan, had a meeting and exchange with representatives of the leadership of the University of Science, VNU, and the Faculty of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Oceanography.

Welcoming Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yohei Sawada from the Institute of New Technology, University of Tokyo, Japan, on behalf of the VNU-HUS, were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice Rector of the university; Dr. Nguyen Quang Hưng, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Oceanography; along with representatives from the Cooperation and Development Department.
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngac An Bang emphasized the urgency of training and research in meteorology and hydrology for societal development. Despite being essential sciences for life, there is a concerning reality that not many students are currently pursuing these fields. Therefore, through the exchange with representatives from the Institute of New Technology, University of Tokyo, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngac An Bang expressed his hope that the two institutions could establish a cooperative relationship in both scientific research and the training of high-quality human resources for society.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yohei Sawada expressed great joy at the trust and goodwill shown by the University of Science, VNU. As part of this working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yohei Sawada also conducted a scientific exchange with the staff and students of the Faculty of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Oceanography, discussing topics such as: forecasting the impacts of storms using ensemble prediction systems; assessing the performance of hydrological models based on
the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency index; and studying potential factors contributing to heavy rainfall using ensemble forecasts.

Through this meeting and scientific exchange, both the University of Science, VNU, in general, and the Faculty of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Oceanography in particular, along with the Institute of New Technology, University of Tokyo, Japan, hope to explore and develop collaborative opportunities in the near future.
