Collaboration between the Environmental Education Connection Program and National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan

On the 22nd of January 2019, VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) met with representatives of National Dong Hwa University (NDHU), Taiwan. Prof. Hurng-Jyuhn Wang, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Director of the Vietnam - Taiwan Research Institute (NDHU) met with Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi - Rector of VNU-HUS and leaders of the Environmental Science Faculty and International Relations Office.

Overview of the meeting

At the meeting, Prof. Hurng-Jyuhn Wang expressed his wish that the two Universities cooperate on the Environmental Education Connection Program. The program is proposed to share ideas about environmental education, interaction and support for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and to be used as a pilot program that can then be replicated in other countries and regions. Rector of VNU-HUS - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi gave his support for these activities as a foundation to promote the long-term cooperation between the two Universities in the future.

The goal of the program is to build an environmental education network between Taiwan and Vietnam to promote cooperation opportunities. The program builds on issues that are important to both countries and creates opportunities to share best practices and help students' initiatives. Environmental education topics focus on Climate change, Circulating economy, Nature conservation and Cultural diversity.

The program connects environmental education with the participation of environmental education experts, students of VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU University of Science, Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, NGOs, and groups of businesses interested in environmental education.

It is expected that the meeting to commence student exchange between Taiwan and Vietnamese universities will be hold at the end of May 2019 in Hanoi.

National Dong Hoa University was officially established in July 1994, and currently has 8 major academies and many excellent academic majors. The University is on the list of the 1000 best universities in the world and the top 200 best universities in Asia, according to the ranking of TIME 2018, which ranks it in the top 5 best universities in Taiwan.
