International Conference on “Sustainability in the Context of Climate Change” and Opening Ceremony of the VNU Key Laboratory of Geoenvironment and Climate Change Response

On Saturday 22nd October 2016, the International Conference on Sustainability in the Context of Climate Change and the Opening ceremony of VNU Key Laboratory of Geoenvironment and Climate Change Response was solemnly held at the VNU University of Science.

On Saturday 22nd October 2016, the International Conference on Sustainability in the Context of Climate Change and the Opening ceremony of VNU Key Laboratory of Geoenvironment and Climate Change Response was solemnly held at the VNU University of Science. The events had the representative of Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, Vice Rectors of VNU University of Science – Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Giang, Director of VNU Key Laboratory of Geoenvironment and Climate Change Response (GEO – CRE) – Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, along with Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Heads of Departments of VNU University of Science, international and Vietnamese scientists.

Dr. Trinh Thi Thuy Giang – Head of Office of Organization and Personnel of the VNU University of Science announced the Decision to establish the VNU Key Laboratory of Geoenvironment and Climate Change Response.

Speaking at the opening, Vice President of the VNU – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai emphasizes the important effects of the climate change to Vietnam and the world. He hopes activities of the new key laboratory will have essential contribution to climate change responses.

Vice Rector of the VNU University of Science – Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia congratulates the opening of the VNU Key Laboratory of Geoenvironment and Climate change Response and Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan for being nominated to be the Director of this Key Laboratory. He strongly believes that the Key Laboratory will promote the cutting-edge climate change research and contribute to sustainable development of Vietnam. Moreover, the Vice Rector hopes the international conference will be a good forum for scientists and participants to present new research results, share expertise and explore cooperation opportunities on the issue of sustainability in the context of climate change.

Presenting about the new key laboratory, Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan cites the necessary to establish the GEO – CRE. He also presents main research fields of GEO – CRE, strategies, scopes of GEO – CRE, and future perspectives of research collaborations.

  

The following international conference had representatives and presentations of foreign scientists from famous universities in the world such as: the University of Tokyo, Ibaraki University, Kyoto University, University of Maryland, Queensland University, and University of Leeds.
