Assoc. Prof. Tran Quoc Binh – Vice Rector speaking at the meeting

In his welcoming speech at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Tran Quoc Binh said: “Student scientific research is one the key tasks of a research university, especially a leading research university in Viet Nam like HUS. Through scientific research , students will strengthen their acquired knowledge, apply that knowledge to solve practical problems and more importantly, build the passion for inventing, exploring and studying. This helps students finding their ways for future career.”

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh, the scientific research movement in students is not only reflected in the number of reports but also in the quality of works through sci-tech products and specifically the prizes achieved at all levels. Considering these two aspects, 2020 is a very successful year for HUS. Despite significant impacts of Covid-19 pandemic, the number of scientific reports not only didn’t decrease but also increased by 9 reports compared to 2019. This has demonstrated the    passion for science research of students as well as the devoted guidance by lecturers. On the academic aspect we have had some noteworthy results such as:

  • 15 papers were published in national and international magazines, especially 7 works were published in ISI/Scopus magazines, including works that are published Q1 magazine.
  • 8/8 projects participating in the Student Scientific Research Contest at Education and Training Ministry-level. There were 4 Second Prizes, 1 Third Prizes and 3 Consolation Prizes. Remarkably, this is the first year the univesrity has 4 projects entering the final round.
  • 3/4 works participating in the Student Scientific Research Award atVNU-level won prizes. In which, the first-prize winner highly appreciated  by the jury for being superior to others.
  • 2/6 works participating in the Eureka Prize entered the final round and won the Consolation Prize.

Dr Pham Tien Duc, lecturer of the Faculty of Chemistrywho for many years in a row having students winning ministry-level prizes, confirmed that in recent years the University has paid great attention to supervising lecturers as well as students participating in science research competitions, so they have quite a comfortable spirit participating in student scientific research competitions at all levels and winning many high prizes. That has created the motivation for supervising lecturers to search for and guide students with topics that are attractive enough and highly competitive at contests. Mr. Pham Tien Duc remarked that students now do not stop at getting used to scientific and laboratory research but many of them have had international projects and authored some Q1 articles.
