The 2nd International Workshop on “Extreme weather events in changing climate in the maritime continent”

On 23rd August 2016, the 2nd International Workshop on “Extreme weather events in changing climate change in the maritime continent” and “Southeast Asia school on Tropical atmospheric science (SEASTAS)”

On 23rd August 2016, the 2nd International Workshop on “Extreme weather events in changing climate change in the maritime continent” and “Southeast Asia school on Tropical atmospheric science (SEASTAS)” were held in Hanoi by VNU University of Science in collaboration with University of Kyoto, Japan. The workshop took place from 23 to 26 August 2016.

The workshop has attracted scientists, experts, and managers in the field of weather forecast, climate change coming from Japan, India, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia; scientists, lecturers from research centres and institutes in Vietnam such as Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change, Centre for National Hydrometeorology, Institute of Geophysics - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, and the lecturers and students from Faculty of Meteorology - Hydrology – Oceanography, VNU University of Science.

Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia - Vice Rector of VNU University of Science expressed the honour of the university to organize the 2nd workshop, following the success the 1st workshop held in Indonesia in 2015. He stressed that Vietnam is one of the five most vulnerable countries to climate change. Therefore, the conference will contribute to help Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries in adaptation to extreme weather in changing climate.
