On December 1st 2020, at the big lecture hall on the 7th floor of T5 building, VNU-HUSheld the opening ceremony for a new postgraduate cohort of 244 students.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Dai Thang, Deputy Head of Metro Dormitory, Center for Student Service, Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Son, Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of the office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, and staff of Faculties and offices of VNU-HUS.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Son shared: “Despite many difficulties and challenges, especially the current pandemic outbreak which is affecting all aspects of social life, students and teachers of VNU-HUS have made great efforts to attain remarkable achievements in training in general and in graduate training in particular. In the two graduate entrance exams of 2020, HUS 208 students were admitted to the Master program and 36 students, Doctor program. Increasing the number of graduate students of 2020 by 30 percent compared to 2019.”

Mr. Nguyen Van The, a former student of Mathematics honor program, who passed the 2nd graduate entrance exam of the year and was admitted to the Data Science master program, spoke on behalf of newly admitted students: “We all have the right to be proud of our admission to a prestigious university with a long-standing tradition and a team of faculty with excellent expertise and experience. We will live, study, and research in a free and “meditative” academic environment, with facilities meeting all requirements of learning. The path to pursuing scientific research will be challenging, but the biggest obstacle to overcome is probably ourselves. We will reach new milestones on the learning journey, have interesting experiences on the academic path, because it is the "path" that matters, not its destination".
After the opening ceremony, the representative of the Office of Political-Student Affairs and the representative of the Office of Postgraduate Academic Affairs disseminated to the students about the policies for graduate students and regulations on postgraduate training of VNU.

Dr.Nguyen Thanh Binh, Head of Office of Political-Student Affairs provided a few keynotes for new students. He emphasized the requirement for an English certificate, the process of asking for a time extension, and the importance of following the study program’s agenda.
VNU-HUS always attaches importance to revising and adjusting study programs. The university and its Faculties paid great attention to adopting the latest knowledge to the study programs so that their students can meet the demand of society. The quality of graduate training is increasingly confirmed when funded by various organizations and sectors. Recently, VINIF (Vingroup’s Innovation Fund) donated two billion VND to the Faculty of Mathematics - Informatics – Mechanics, sponsored VND 120-150 million for each of the 36 excellent students and graduate students in 2020. The university has also established a scholarship fund named "Bright Future for HUS" to provide students with timely support, motivation, and encouragement.
In addition to their excellent academic results, many graduate students of VNU-HUS have published in prestigious international journals in the ISI or Scopus list. These achievements have significantly and continuously contributed to raising the ranking of VNU and VNU-HUS internationally.
