On May 25, 2025, VNU University of Science, VNU Hanoi, hosted the 3rd Career Orientation and Employer Networking Day – BIO-CAREER DAY 2025, drawing the participation of dozens of enterprises, research institutes, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from both Vietnam and abroad. Organized by the Faculty of Biology, the event not only created job opportunities for students but also expanded academic connections, encouraged entrepreneurial initiatives, and fostered strategic partnerships between the University, enterprises, and learners in the rapidly growing fields of Life Sciences and Biotechnology.

BIO-CAREER DAY 2025 served as more than just a recruitment event. It was a strategic networking platform where students could shape their career paths through direct engagement with reputable companies, top research institutions, and NGOs in the life sciences sector.
The event featured participants from a wide array of industries: pharmaceutical companies such as CPC1 Hanoi, HANVET, and Viet Anh Joint Venture; global bioinformatics firm BioTuring; science and healthcare solution providers like BCE Vietnam, Suran, BMN; biotechnology and cell technology companies like VOS DISCOVERY and Mescells Institute; as well as conservation organizations such as the Plant Resource Center (PRC) and Save Vietnam’s Wildlife. Students had the opportunity to meet with recruiters, submit CVs, join on-the-spot interviews, and receive career guidance.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham The Hai, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, emphasized: “BIO-CAREER DAY is a unique opportunity for students to interact directly with employers, explore career paths, and better understand labor market demands in life sciences—a vibrant and promising field.”

Speaking about student quality, Mr. Le Nam Thang, Chairman of the Board of CPC1 Hanoi, noted: “Our staff who graduated from the Faculty of Biology at VNU University of Science demonstrate strong academic foundations, professional responsibility, and modern thinking. We look forward to continued cooperation with the Faculty.”

Companies and research institutes not only focused on recruitment but also committed to training collaboration, such as lab skills courses. BCE Vietnam has been a notable partner in organizing such programs with the Faculty. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, Product Manager at BCE Vietnam, shared: “For years, we have collaborated with the Faculty of Biology to conduct laboratory equipment training courses. Students from the Faculty who joined BCE have shown excellent technical knowledge and professional skills. In recent years, they have also been impressively well-prepared when meeting recruiters.”
Throughout the event, students actively engaged in discussions, participated in career talks, and took part in interviews, demonstrating a proactive and open-minded attitude.

A highlight of BIO-CAREER DAY 2025 was the science entrepreneurship forum, which drew attention from students and tech startup founders. Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Founder and CTO of Suran and CEO of CENBIOTECH, and an alumnus of the Faculty, inspired attendees by sharing his journey from lab research to market application. He stressed the potential of gene sequencing, recombinant proteins, and precision medicine, affirming: “Startup in science is no longer a distant dream. The key lies in a solid academic foundation, practical skills, and the courage to face challenges.”

The entrepreneurial spirit is being nurtured at the Faculty of Biology, where students are encouraged not just to study for employment but also to innovate and launch ventures from their scientific knowledge.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, Director of the VNU Technopark for Innovation and Technology (VNU-TIP), highlighted the challenges of starting a business without sufficient knowledge, experience, or advanced skills. He also encouraged students with entrepreneurial ideas to seek support from VNU-TIP.
During the expert panel discussion titled “Life Sciences: Careers and Opportunities,” leading scientists including Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Truong (Vice Director, Institute of Biology, VAST), Mr. Nguyen Van Thai (Director of Save Vietnam’s Wildlife and recipient of the Goldman Environmental Prize), Dr. Pham Luong Thang (BioTuring), and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam (Meraplion) provided insights into industry trends, essential skills, and emerging career opportunities for biology graduates in the next 5–10 years. They also discussed how new policies may impact the labor market and what students should prepare.

In meetings with businesses, representatives exchanged views on research trends and proposed new areas of cooperation, especially in applied research and technology transfer. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, Head of Academic Affairs, suggested the University explore new interdisciplinary programs such as Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi My Nhung, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Biology, reaffirmed: “Feedback from employers is a real-world benchmark for us to improve our academic programs. We are committed to supplying the labor market with top-quality talent.”

Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Son, Rector of VNU University of Science, stated that businesses are strategic partners in training. “The partnership between universities, enterprises, and students is the optimal model for developing high-quality scientific human resources.”
At the close of the event, the University and Faculty expressed their gratitude to the participating companies, research institutes, and organizations for their valuable contributions.

Over nearly 70 years of development, the Faculty of Biology has established itself as a leader in education and research in life sciences and biotechnology. According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Vice Dean and Head of the Organizing Committee, the post-graduation employment or continued education rate ranges from 84.8% to 91.7% (2019–2023), demonstrating strong linkage between academic training and the labor market.

BIO-CAREER DAY 2025 concluded successfully, but its impact will continue to resonate. It reflects the innovative vision of the Faculty of Biology and serves as a model for effective partnerships between education, research, and industry as Vietnam accelerates the development of high-quality human resources.
After the plenary session, students met directly with recruiters for interviews at company booths. Participating employers included BCE Vietnam, Mescells Institute, Viet Anh JV, BMN, CPC1 Hanoi, VOS DISCOVERY, HANVET, PRC, Suran, and BioTuring. CPC1 Hanoi notably aimed to recruit 30 students during the event.
