On October 26, 2023, at the VNU University of Science, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the University and the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST). This signing ceremony marks the beginning of what is anticipated to be a successful collaborative partnership in the future.

In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector of the VNU University of Science, emphasized that this MOU signing would pave the way for future success in cooperation between the two institutions. With a well-established reputation in both fundamental science and emerging fields in applied sciences, VNU University of Science and ECUST share many common interests, promising fruitful collaboration in various areas.
Following his remarks, Prof. Xuan Fuzhen, Rector of ECUST, expressed his pleasure in attending the signing ceremony, which heralds the partnership between the two universities. Prof. Xuan Fuzhen hopes that following this MOU, there will be specific collaborations in student exchange programs and joint research activities between laboratories at both institutions.

At the signing ceremony, the two parties discussed the following collaborative plans:
- In Scientific Research Cooperation: Both institutions agreed to focus on implementing research projects in the following areas: advanced materials for environmental analysis and treatment, multifunctional materials for catalysis and energy storage and conversion, materials for green industrial and agricultural development, pharmaceutical and biological materials and technologies, materials and technologies for climate change mitigation, and AI, big data, and IoT technologies for emission control, smart city management, and intelligent transportation…
- Establishing a scholarship fund to provide various scholarship programs, both jointly and individually, to support short-term and long-term research training. Students from VNU University of Science will receive scholarships once a year. These scholarships include the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Shanghai Municipal Scholarship, and ECUST’s scholarships, which support internships, research, discussions, and experiences for 15-20 students annually, for periods ranging from 15 to 30 days. Additionally, scholarships from professors and research groups will also be offered..
- East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) committed to providing maximum support for internships for students from VNU University of Science during their study and research in China.
- To enhance cooperation and promote the exchange of scientific advancements and innovative thinking in education and research, both universities agreed to organize joint seminars and thematic workshops. These events will involve scientists from both institutions and other partners.
- Responding to the practical needs of both institutions, and building on international cooperation programs such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BTF) and the existing international collaborationexperiences of the Key Laboratory for Advanced Materials for Green Development in building a joint laboratory under the Rohan Catalysis Project, the OEPAC program, and ongoing projects under the China Protocol. This joint laboratory will serve both research and training purposes for both universities, with shared equipment and scientific and technological personnel. The
laboratory will also be a hub for implementing startup projects, scientific products, and technology transfer between the two sides.
