According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam needs at least 50,000 engineers in the semiconductor industry by 2030, which is 10 times the current figure, to secure its place on the global technology map. As a pioneering institution in training human resources for this field, the VNU University of Science, Hanoi (VNU-HUS), has been committed to fostering and developing partnerships and training programs in semiconductor technology for over a decade​.

At the meeting with representatives of the International College of Semiconductor Technology, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU/ICST), Associate Professor Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice Rector of VNU University of Science, Hanoi, shared that previously, the semiconductor technology sector was rarely mentioned in Vietnam. However, in recent years, the term "semiconductor technology" has become a "hot" keyword as the government has introduced policies focusing on the development of this field​.

The VNU University of Science, Hanoi, is one of the first universities in Vietnam to conduct research and train human resources in the semiconductor sector. For about ten years, the Faculty of Physics at VNU University of Science has maintained a close relationship with NYCU/ICST in training experts in semiconductor technology at the master's level​.

At the meeting and discussion, representatives from both institutions mentioned the preparation plans for the upcoming fifth enrollment of the master's program in semiconductor technology. The VNU University of Science expressed its hope that NYCU would provide flexibility in terms of timing to allow more students to meet the necessary requirements and participate in the program​.

NYCU representative, Professor Edward Yi-Chang, Dean of the International College of Semiconductor Technology, fully agreed with the university's proposal. Additionally, he affirmed that scholarship support and internship opportunities at leading semiconductor technology companies for students would continue to be provided​.

Along with vigorously promoting the master's program collaboration, representatives from both institutions discussed plans to establish a bachelor's program in semiconductor technology. The two sides proposed a 2+2+1 program structure, providing students the opportunity to complete a master's degree in semiconductor technology within five years, with three years spent studying at NYCU in Taiwan. Once completed, the program will contribute a significant, high-quality workforce to the development of the country's semiconductor industry​.

Professor Nguyen The Toan, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, expressed his pleasure that the two institutions have maintained a long-standing cooperative relationship. He hopes that the plan to establish the joint bachelor's program in semiconductor technology between the two sides will be implemented soon​.
