On the afternoon of August 15th 2013, VNU University of Science honored to welcome Physics Nobel Professor George Smoot to communicate with staff, students and pupils.

At the meeting, Professor George Smoot presented about Mapping the Universe, that attracted the attention and tracking of numerous staff, faculty, students of VNU University of Science. Through the researching of the universe by using the most advanced techniques, we can understand the events around the birth and the development of the universe, and what has happened over billions of years.

Professor George Smoot answered all the students' questions openly and friendly. When he was asked how could he find out the "theory" so great, Prof. Smoot shared that: have to prepare knowledge fully, study the articles and the work has been published, and then find the idea; as well as seeking to advances in technology and bring them to be applied in physics. You must dare to think of and implement big dreams.

Professor George Fitzgerald Smoot (was born on 02/20/1945) is an American physicist of astronomy and cosmology. In 2006, he and physicist John C. Mather won the Nobel Prize of physics in researching cosmic background radiation and the discovery of black matter as well as radiation anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background. His discovery helped to measure the black holes and the cosmic background radiation becomes feasibly and more accurately.
The work that won the Nobel Prize of George Smoot has helped to expand the doctrine of "Big Bang", because of using satellite Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE). Nobel Prize Committee said: "COBE can be considered as the starting point of cosmology as well as a precise science". George Smoot donated all the prize money that has received to charity East Bay Community Foundation.
At present, he is a professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. In addition to the Nobel Prize in 2006, George Fitzgerald Smoot was awarded the Albert Einstein Medal in 2003 and Oersted Medal in 2009.
