On July 28th, 2014, the 46th IChO came to a close with a ceremony that stirred mixed feelings among the participants.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung gives his speech at the Closing Ceremorny
After nine days of solidarity, the 46th IChO no longer seems like a race for medals, but rather a playground for young chemists to shine as well as for them to exchange with others from participating countries and territories. During the nine days of the 46th IChO not only did we witness newly-developed friendships amongst the contestants, but also between the IChO students and volunteers, who, along with the organizing committee, always tried their utmost to help the participating students in whatever way possible. Nine days may not seem like a long time, but all the memories generated during that time, like the parties, trips, etc. are truly unforgettable. In the end, many have become good friends. Thus, as we come to the end, we can reflect on this event that has left such big holes in the hearts of so many who participated. On the final day itself, many tears were shed, proof of the bonds amongst “IChO family members”. So, let us recall some memorable moments from the 46th IChO.

“Gotcha! Delegates, I’ll take it from here”

Heated up by the opening ceremony, the tension nears!

Trying our hand at artisanal pottery before the first big day.

“Almighty ancient experts, please bless us during the forthcoming exams!”

Showtime!

More fun before yet another show time!

Showtime (again)!

Finally free to enjoy the beauty of Vietnamese nature.

Time to honor the winners.
After all, a contest is not a contest without a ranking of medals. Below is a summary of all the 46th IChO contestants’ results in Hanoi. Wishing each and every one of you the very best of success, dear young chemists!

In conclusion, we, the hosts of the 46th IChO 2014 would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Vietnamese Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, the relevant committees, especially the IChO Steering Committee and Organizing Committee, for all their support and facilitation, and last but not least, our great thanks to the many volunteers, whose diligence kept this event on track.
As a famous Vietnamese idiom says, “Every party must come to an end”. To you, the elite from all the participating countries, may you have the very best memories of Vietnam. Please remember, our warmest welcome awaits you should you ever return to Vietnam at anytime!
Goodbye! The best of luck! See you again soon in Vietnam!
