AUN-QA external assessment team assesses the quality of the Bachelor’s Program in Nuclear Engineering Technology

From October 31 to November 2, 2023, a team of education quality assessment experts from the ASEAN University Network (AUN) will conduct an audit of four bachelor's programs at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Specifically, the University of Sciences has its Bachelor’s Program in Nuclear Engineering Technology, under the Faculty of Physics, reviewed in this round.

On the morning of October 31, 2023, the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, held the Opening Ceremony for the 358th AUN-QA external assessment of its training programs. The ceremony was attended by the AUN-QA quality assessment expert team led by Prof. Dr. Rohaida Mohd.Saat. Representatives from VNU, Hanoi included Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy, Director of the VNU Institute for Educational Quality Assurance; Board of Rectors of the University of Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities; along with leadership from functional departments and faculties involved in the evaluated programs.

In his speech, Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy shared that with the mission to provide high-quality human resources, nurture talents, conduct scientific research, and transfer knowledge, VNU Hanoi always actively participates in various activities to improve the quality of its training programs. The institution has programs evaluated annually by international accreditation organizations.

In 2023, VNU had 12 programs assessed according to the AUN-QA standards and plans to have seven more programs assessed in 2024. As of now, 63.7% of its bachelor’s programs have been evaluated, of which 32.6% received international accreditation. Similarly, 7.9% of master's programs have been evaluated, with 6.7% receiving international accreditation. 

Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy affirmed that the 358th AUN-QA external assessment is a great opportunity for VNU Hanoi to receive valuable advice from educational experts from leading universities in the region. This will help them enhance their strengths, overcome weaknesses, and continuously improve quality, thereby not only increasing the competitiveness of their students in the job market but also strengthening the reputation of member universities as well as creating positive impacts on social development.

On behalf of the AUN-QA external assessment team, Prof.Dr. Rohaida Mohd. Saat, the team leader, expressed gratitude to the units that have supported the preparation and organization of this accreditation program. According to Prof.Dr. Rohaida Mohd. Saat, since its establishment, AUN-QA has assessed a total of 1,120 training programs across eight ASEAN countries.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony, the University of Sciences had a face-to-face meeting with the team that assessed the University's program this time—representing the University of Sciences, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Quoc Binh, Vice Rector, emphasized that with nearly 70 years of establishment and development, the university has always been among Vietnam’s leading universities in the field of basic sciences and strives to be among Asia’s leading universities by 2035. Therefore, "Quality" is always the keyword in the university's development strategy. During this accreditation round, reviews from experts will not only help improve the quality of the Bachelor’s Program in Nuclear Engineering Technology. Still, they can also serve as a reference to improve the quality of other university’s other training programs.

The external assessment team is divided into four groups to evaluate four training programs of VNU in this round. The assessors for the Bachelor’s program in Nuclear Engineering Technology, Faculty of Physics, HUS, include Assoc.Prof.Dr. Robert Roleda  (Team Leader) and Dr. Ir. Johanes Pramana Gentur Sutapa (Assessor).

According to the plan, the AUN-QA external assessment team will work from October 31 - November 2, 2023, and will undertake various specialized activities such as reviewing research documents, self-assessment reports, and accompanying evidence; interviewing stakeholders like leaders of faculties, subject divisions, lecturers, students, support staff, alumni, and employers; and conduct a field survey and assessment of all conditions including infrastructure, services, educational support, scientific research, and student activities. These assessing activities will take place directly at the University of Sciences and the Faculty of Physics.
