AUN the 18th Actual Quality Assessment

In the morning of May 23rd, 2013, at Le Van Thiem Hall - 19 Le Thanh Tong, Hanoi, VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) was in collaboration with the University Network of Southeast Asia (Asian University Network - AUN) to open the ceremony assessment at the program level following the AUN standard - the training program of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biology.

In the morning of May 23rd, 2013, at Le Van Thiem Hall - 19 Le Thanh Tong, Hanoi, VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) was in collaboration with the University Network of Southeast Asia (Asian University Network - AUN) to open the ceremony assessment at the program level following the AUN standard - the training program of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biology. 

This was the AUN 18th actual quality assessment at the program level  following the AUN-QA (Asian University Network - Quality Assurance) was held at the university member of Viertnam National University, Hanoi and was the second to be held at VNU-HUS from 23 to 25 of May, 2013.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Cam - Rector of VNU-HUS sent the warmest greetings to the assessor team. He emphasized, is a member of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and is one of the leading universities in Vietnam on training and research of the basic science, VNU University of Science is striving to become an advanced research university in the region.
Therefore, the verification and standardization of undergraduate education programs under international standards is essential, including assessment of the quality of university education program following AUN-QA standard.
In 2012, the Training Program of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry of the University, and the first training program of basic science of Vietnam to take part in the standard external assessment AUN-QA and has achieved high result (it was ranked the first among the programs that were evaluated by AUN in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia).
Also in 2012, according to the ranking results of the QS, HUS-VNU has the natural sciences ranked No. 61 and the life sciences and biomedical ranked No. 83.
In 2013, VNU-HUS continues to register for verification 02 training programs of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biology.
In the meeting that followed the opening session, the assessment teams worked with the Faculty of Mathematics-Mechanics-Informatics and Faculty of Biology: exchanged, interviewed the academics staff, support staff, administrators, students, employers, alumni. The assessment teams also spent time for sightseeing facilities, laboratories, lecture halls, health center and library of university.


After 02 working days, the representative of assessment team presented preliminary conclusions about the training program for Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biology at the closing session (dated 05/25/2013). The team analyzed the strengths and the points that need to be improved of the 02 programs under the standards of AUN-QA (includes 15 criteria). The standards for checking the quality of  the AUN training program consists of 15 criteria: Results of expected learning, program form, structure and content of program, teaching and learning strategies, student assessment, quality of lecturers, quality of support staff, quality of students, counseling and supporting for students, equipment and infrastructure to ensure quality of teaching and learning progresses, activities for staff development, feedback from stakeholders, the output, the satisfaction of stakeholders.
Basically, the two programs have met the objectives of the standards for outcomes; the content and structure of the program is linked, scientists lecturers, staff are high qualification, enthusiastic and positive in teaching operation; the facilities, equipment, machine systems and labs are relatively good; students are motivate and positive, ...
Expected results of the AUN 18th actual quality assessment at program level for bachelor of science in mathematics and biology will be officially announced in 01 months since the date of assessment.
