Hungarian Science Day in Vietnam: Science - The way to explore the world

On the afternoon of November 3, 2022, on the occasion of Hungarian Science Day (November 3), a Scientific Seminar on “The scientific achievements of Hungary” was held by VNU-HUS in collaboration with the Hungarian Embassy in Hanoi at the 7th floor Hall, building T5.

On behalf of the Hungarian Embassy in Hanoi, there were Mr. Baloghdi Tibor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Hungary in Vietnam, Mr. Áron Balázs, Counselor for Culture, Education and Press and officers from the Hungarian Embassy in Hanoi. On behalf of VNU-HUS, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University, and lecturers and students.

Guests and presenters included: Prof. DSc. Tran Van Nhung, former Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, former expert of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Prof. DSc. Le Minh Triet, Vietnam Physics Association, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dam Sao Mai, Vice Rector of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City. Besides, there were also many who used to study in Hungary, those interested in Hungary and were looking for opportunities to study in this country.

In his welcome speech, Sir Baloghdi Tibor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Hungary to Vietnam said: “On November 3, 1825, the Hungarian statesman Széchenyi István donated a year's income from his property to found the Hungarian Scientific Society, which then led to the establishment of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. And in 2003, as proposed by this organization, November 3 was officially chosen as the Hungarian Science Day. This year's theme is: "Science: The Way to Explore the World", according to which this seminar is organized to introduce Hungarian scientists and their achievements.

At the seminar, four presentations with diverse perspectives on the country, people, and achievements of Hungarian science and education were presented by prestigious speakers.

The presentation Hungary - the "small but mighty" country (by Tran Van Nhung and Giap Van Chung) left the audiences extremely impressed with so much new information about Hungary and the reasons why Hungary is considered a "small but mighty" country. Besides, the witty presentation of Prof. TSKH. Tran Van Nhung made many burst into laughter.

Prof. TSKH. Tran Van Nhung was a student of the Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanics - Informatics, VNU-HUS. He defended his PhD and DSc at the University of Budapest - Hungary. He had taught at the Polytechnic University of Budapest for some time before joining the Ministry of Education and Training. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanical - Informatics, Vice Rector of VNU-HUS.

With practical experience and insights from his work, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh provided quite a comprehensive introduction on the Cooperation in Science and Technology  between Vietnam and Hungary: legal basis, actual implementation, funding sources, areas of cooperation, effectiveness of cooperation, etc.

Mr. Le Minh Triet (Vietnam Physics Association) gave an introduction about Hungarian Physics: comprehensive development and important contributions to Physics and modern technology.

The presentation "Introduction of some study programs in Hungary" by speaker Dam Sao Mai not only provided a clear picture of Hungarian educational programs but also spread the love for this country with special things like language, climate, openness in policy, friendly people, etc.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hoang Nam, Director of Center for Nano and Energy, VNU-HUS, former international student in Hungary, was sharing about opportunities to study in Hungary in the field of Physics in particular and other fields in general.

After the Q&A session, the seminar ended in warm and friendly exchanges.
