VNU University of Science (VNU - HUS) held a ceremony to announce the appointment of their new principal for the 2020 - 2025 term, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh on May 22nd, 2020.

Attending the ceremony were Dr. Phạm Công Tạc, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; and Prof.PhD. Ngô Việt Trung, President of Vietnam Mathematical Society.
Members from VNU were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyễn Kim Sơn, Party Committee Secretary, Director of VNU, along with representatives from different units of VNU.
There were many former principals and vice principals of VNU – HUS attending ceremony. Members of the Party Committee, Union Executive Committee, Youth Union, heads of functional departments, and other units and members working in VNU – HUS were also present.
At the ceremony, Mr. Sơn awarded decision No.1368/QĐ-ĐHQGHN from the Director of VNU to appoint Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh to be the Principal of VNU - HUS.

In his speech, Mr. Sơn sent his congratulations to Mr. Linh as well as everyone in VNU - HUS. He considered this event to be an important hallmark for both Mr. Linh and VNU - HUS.
Mr. Sơn expressed his faith in the leadership of the new Principal and the solidarity of the entire VNU - HUS. In the near future, VNU - HUS will be the pioneer in the research department, as well as the education and training of future scientific talents for VNU and Vietnam.
The Director of VNU also recommended that the Board of Directors under the leadership of the new Principal should inherit and promote the core value of VNU - HUS, producing talented and passionate scientists to continue the school’s important responsibility of research and training. He wished Mr. Linh luck and success in his tenure.

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh gave his appreciation to everyone present at the ceremony for having placed their faith on him. He asserted that it was necessary to put every plan into practice, and he would prioritize the interest of the school above all, as well as keeping the professional, transparent, and just nature of a healthy educational environment for VNU - HUS.
Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh was a Math major of class A0 at the University of Hanoi, the precedessor of HUS High School for Gifted Students. In early 2000, Mr. Linh chose VNU - HUS as his place for a lifelong career after spending some time studying abroad. His family tradition and his confidence in the quality of the institution were the factors that led to this decision. After 20 year working for VNU - HUS, Mr. Linh has become a renowned scientist in the Vietnam Mathematical Society, as well as an experienced manager. Despite the remarkable achievement, Mr. Linh only sees himself as a normal yet not mediocre individual.

The new principal of VNU - HUS, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh was a Math major at the University of Hanoi. He was also a student and graduate student at the University of Budapest, Hungary. He carried out his Applied Mathematics doctoral thesis defense there under the guidance of Prof. Katalin Balla in 1998.
Mr. Linh became an Associate Professor in 2007.
From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Linh collaborated with Prof.Volker Mehrmann (currently the president of European Mathematical Society). He was sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, an organization supporting experienced researchers at Technical University of Berlin, Germany.
He defended his habilitation thesis at Technical University of Berlin in 2014.
Positions held by Mr. Linh includes: Dean of the Faculty of Math - Mechanics - Informatics (November 2008 - May 2014). Vice Principal of VNU - HUS (May 2014 - May 2020), Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Mathematical Society (August 2018 - now)
