In August 2022, Research.com announced the ranking results of world scientists with excellent achievements in scientific publications, according to which, 4 out of 10 scientists were from VNU Hanoi: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc - Head of the Department for Academic Affairs, Assoc. In this round, it reviewed the data of 166,880 scientists who have the highest publication and citation productivity.

Vietnamese scientists are recognized in several fields as follows:
Chemistry: 01 (Prof. Nguyen Van Tuan/Phiippe Derreumaux, an Australian Vietnamese, Ton Duc Thang University.)
Engineering and Technology: 01 (Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, VNU Hanoi). There are also three non-Vietnamese: two from Ton Duc Thang University, one from Duy Tan University.
Environmental Science: 02 (Prof. Dr. Pham Hung Viet and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Binh Minh, both from VNU Hanoi).
Computer Science: 01 (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son, VNU Hanoi).
Materials Science: 01 (Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu, Phenikaa University).

According to this ranking, Vietnamese scientists who are working in the country are present in 6 fields: Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Materials Science, Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering and Technology, Community Medicine… and there are only 10 of them across the fields.
Notably, all the Vietnamese scientists on this rank are leaders of strong research groups in universities, especially VNU Hanoi, where there are scientists ranked in 3 fields: Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Computer Science.
It reflects the contiunous progress, efforts and integration of Vietnamese scientists in areas where Vietnam is recognized on the world's scientific map.
It also shows that Vietnamese science and technology must continue to strive, more investment must be made for scientists, for strong research groups, for universities and for key spearheads, so that Vietnamese science and technology can approach international standards and furthur integrate with the world's science.
