VNU University of Science awarded Doctoral Degrees to 42 Graduate Students

On December 30th, 2020, at the hall of Ngụy Như Kon Tum (19 Lê Thánh Tông, Hanoi), VNU University of Science held the 2020 Doctoral Award Ceremony for 42 graduate students who completed their training program and successfully defended their doctoral thesis in 2020.

Attending the 2020 Doctoral Degree Award Ceremony of the University of Science and Technology, were Prof.Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Director General, General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, representatives and leaders of units and agencies inside and outside VNU. Representing VNU - HUS,  Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Hoang Linh, Party Committee Secretary, Principal of VNU - HUS; Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Son, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice Principal of the University; cadres in the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Trade Union representatives, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and the instructors of the PhD students and 42 PhD students.

Delivering his speech at the ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vũ Hoàng Linh recounted the 65 years history of the development of VNU - HUS, from the University of Hanoi to its present day incarnation. He appreciated the hardship and dedication of generations of teachers and students from the early days to an education and training institution for top scientists in Vietnam, as well as international recognition. He also mentioned that, since 1978, the university has been one of the few universities in Vietnam to have postgraduate education, and has always been at the top of universities with the best postgraduate programs, and in the recent year VNU - HUS had reaped countless achievements in education, training, and scientific research. In 2020, the university had 500 scientific articles published in prestigious international magazines, many of them were written or co-written by graduate students with doctorate degrees. 

Representing researchers and teachers who served as the instructors for the 42 doctoral graduates, Mr. Nghi expressed that he was proud of having instructed his 32nd graduate student in his entire career - who later became a doctoral graduate. He also congratulated all 42 doctoral graduates and wished them well in their paths of their scientific career.

Ms. Mai Kim Liên, one of the doctoral graduates who was awarded the PhD degree in Environment and Sustainable Development expressed: “We hailed from different regions, different age groups, different offices, but we all share one same pride: Our mutual choice of learning and researching at VNU - HUS, a top postgraduate institution in Vietnam. Everyone of us was inspired, guided, and comforted by teachers of VNU - HUS on our ways to acquire enough skills to write scientific studies, scientific articles, to present scientific reports, and to be recognized as PhD”

6 graduate students with outstanding achievements were awarded certificates of merit and other rewards from the Principal of VNU - HUS. They studied Microbiology, Geology, Environment and Sustainable Development, Inorganic Chemistry, Meteorology.

With the slogan “knowledge, innovation and social responsibility”, VNU - HUS always focuses on the development and dissemination of knowledge, providing talented human resource, and premium scientific products for the society, contributing for the scientific progress of Vietnam. Development of postgraduate education and training, especially PhD education and training in VNU - HUS constantly growing in both size and quality. Many graduate students have their articles published in prestigious magazines inside and outside Vietnam.
