Dr. Le Tien Hung - Department of Local Science and Technology Development - Ministry of Science and Technology was present at the meeting. The Dong Thap Department of Science and Technology was represented by Dr. Huynh Minh Tuan - Director, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Deputy Director and leaders of affiliated units. VNU-HUS was represented by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Noi - Rector, Prof. Sc. Dr. Nguyen Van Mau - Chairman of Science and Training Council, Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia - Vice Rector and representatives of functional departments.
Overview of the meeting
At the meeting, the Department leaders presented on a number of matters including the research and application program for the period of 2016-2020; the cooperation program between Ministry of Science and Technology and Dong Thap People's Committee for the period of 2018-2025; a number of scientific and technological tasks that have been implemented, some difficulties and constraints on the province's agricultural production, as well as environmental issues.
Dr. Huynh Minh Tuan elaborated on the priority tasks of science and technology, namely, the urgent needs of Dong Thap province mainly in the field of the environment.
During the meeting, VNU-HUS exchanged information regarding their strengths in areas such as international cooperation, climate change, environmental treatment, molecular biology and biotechnology. Based on the need for cooperation from both parties, VNU-HUS has proposed cooperation with the Department as follows: Building a technology solution to treat domestic waste in the islet area, a difficult new rural commune about traffic; Researching, applying and transferring technology solutions for wastewater and sludge treatment of catfish ponds to minimize environmental pollution; Building a model for the economical production of slow-release fertilizers, limiting the use of pesticides in rice, fruit and ornamental plants.
In line with the cooperation program between the Ministry of Science and Technology and the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, the leaders of VNU-HUS and the Department want to increase cooperation in many other fields and proceed to sign a long-term cooperation agreement.
The meeting concluded with a consensus to sign a cooperation agreement in the future in order to solve local problems, strengthen staff exchange and increase international cooperation capacity as well as attracting industry to coordinate with the locality.
