Overview of the workshop
The workshop was attended by Dr. Masanori Kasahara - Acting President of Hokkaido University, Mr. Shinichi Asazuma - Minister of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and Prof. So Kawanobe - Deputy Director of the Institute for International Collaboration, along with representative officials and lecturers from Hokkaido University. Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Tien Giang - Vice Rector, along with leaders of functional departments attended to represent VNU-HUS.

During his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Giang - Vice Rector of VNU-HUS, emphasized that "this workshop is a meaningful example of the fruitful collaboration between our two universities over the last 12 years". The Vice Rector believes that the workshop offers the participants from these two universities great opportunities for sustainable ongoing cooperation.

Dr. Masanori Kasahara - Acting President of Hokkaido University
The opening ceremony of the Hokkaido University and VNU-HUS Joint Office was conducted as part of the Exchange day. The joint office supports, consults and provides information for students who want to study in Japan at Hokkaido University. As one of 11 foreign offices, the establishment of Hokkaido University's representative office at VNU-HUS also serves as an important milestone, marking 12 years of cooperation and development of the two universities.

The collaboration between the two universities was established in 2007 with a MOU and re-affirmed in March 2013. Many effective scientific and educational activities have been carried out by scientists from both universities. The Hokkaido University has offered post-graduate scholarships to 17 successful fellows, as well as dozens of short-term exchange opportunities for undergraduate students from HUS. Many scientific visits and collaborative workshops have been held and scientists from both universities have also invited each other to participate in research projects coordinated by either HU or VNU-HUS.

The Exchange Day held at VNU-HUS creates a valuable platform for professors and scientists of the two universities to increase their mutual understanding and to promote the exchange of research interests. It opens up new prospects and opportunities for cooperation. In addition, this workshop provides vital information to VNU-HUS’s students who wish to study at Hokkaido University.
