Welcoming delegation from KU Leuven University, Belgium

On the 4th December 2018, VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) welcomed a delegation from the KU Leuven University, Belgium. The delegation was led by Mr. Paul Van Dun, the Director of Research and Development and Technology Transfer Center at the KU Leuven University.

On the 4th December 2018, VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) welcomed a delegation from the KU Leuven University, Belgium. The delegation was led by Mr. Paul Van Dun, the Director of Research and Development and Technology Transfer Center at the KU Leuven University.  Mr. Ivo Hooghe – the First Secretary of the Belgian Embassy in Vietnam accompanied the delegation. The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia - Vice Rector and Head of the International Relations Office, Science and Technology Office and Faculty of Environmental Science for VNU-HUS.

During the meeting, Mr. Paul Van Dun discussed the importance of innovation at the university through corporate-university collaboration and technology transfer activities. He also shared his practical experiences in technology transfer activities at KU Leuven University.

Vice Rector of VNU-HUS - Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia

Representative of VNU-HUS, Vice Rector - Prof. Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia thanked Mr. Paul Van Dun for visiting and sharing his experiences on technology transfer and commercialization of science and technology products with the University.

Reuters has ranked KU Leuven University as the most innovative university in Europe in 2016 and 2018. Mr. Paul Van Dun shared the valuable experience that KU Leuven University has in bringing the results of scientific research into the real world, delivering benefit the society as well as delivering a return to further promote, nurture and encourage research.

Mr. Paul Van Dun said: "The secret of the University's success lies in the fact that, unlike universities that focus solely on research and teaching, KU Leuven University also focuses on the applicability of these research results to the community. This requires a 15 year lead time for the Center's operational model to deliver significant economic benefits and growth.”

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed possibilities for future cooperation in training and scientific research between VNU-HUS and KU Leuven University.
