The Scientific Conference of VNU University of Science is held every two years. In 2021, it was held with the theme "Innovation associated with basic research at Hanoi University of Sciences" in order to strengthen applied research, promote innovation and start-up activities within the University.
From October 8 to the end of November, the conference took place in 09 sessions.
On November 4, the plenary session of the University-level Scientific Conference was held both on-site and online. The conference is a highlight in the series of events to celebrate the 65th anniversary of VNU-HUS.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector said: 65 years ago, on October 15, 1956, the Government made a decision to establish 05 universities, including the University of Hanoi with the task of training and research in basic science. Succeeding the tradition of the University of Hanoi, the Hanoi University of Sciences now has proved its role and position as one of the leading universities in Vietnam in the field of basic sciences.

Addressing the conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of VNU emphasized: “VNU-HUS is one of the leading institutions for research and training in basic sciences in Vietnam. HUS also assumes the leading role in VNU in science and technology with its outstanding contributions in international scientific publications as well as intellectual property. On November 2, Quacquarelli Symonds - UK (QS AUR) announced the results of the Asian University Rankings, according to which, VNU stands at 147th position, in the top 21.4% of Asia's leading higher education institutions. In the general achievements of VNU, especially in university rankings, there is a great contribution of the teaching staff of HUS. The contribution not only focuses on the number of international scientific publications, but also on the number and index of citations, and especially the connection between the University's scientists and scientists around the world."

The brief opening session was followed by 04 presentations: Innovation associated with basic research at Hanoi University of Sciences: current situation and development orientation to 2025 (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh, Vice-Rector; New State policies on science and technology activities in universities (Prof.Dr. Ta Ngoc Don, Director of Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, MOET): Some orientations of Science Company Limited in connecting research results with the market (Professor. Dr. Tran Ngoc Anh, Director of Natural Sciences Company Limited, HUS); Experience in developing applied products in the field of Environment (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Khai, Dean of Faculty of Environment).
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Quoc Binh, Vice-Rector clearly stated the view of HUS in his presentation regarding innovation and creativity: Innovation - creativity is the creation and transformation of ideas and knowledge into a specific result such as technologies, products, service... that bring added benefits to the University and society. Innovation comes from ideas and knowledge and the results of scientific research and technological development from universities and research institutes. Therefore, it can be said that universities are the source of innovation. Innovation not only needs to be new but also needs to be implemented.

Summarizing the conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Quoc Binh said: “Innovation is a long-term process, we cannot expect that in just a few years innovation activities can make a breakthrough. However, the leaders of the Hanoi University of Sciences expect that after this Scientific Conference, the culture and spirit of innovation will spread among the staff of the University. This will create strength and promote action so that scientists, as well as businesses, can make more contributions to the University and society.

From 2016-2020, the University has presided over 464 science and technology topics and projects with a total budget of nearly VND 470 billion, including 28 international cooperation projects; 28 State-level topics and protocols; 95 NAFOSTED topics; 167 topics at VNU, ministerial and provincial levels. In addition, the university also has 316 contracts for science services and technology transfer with a budget of VND 128 billion.
However, access to investment for scientific research from enterprises is still limited; products with high transferring value have not been developed. The university realizes that it is necessary to broaden connection to the market, access to businesses, and implement science and technology tasks associated with reality. This will be done in the coming time in the spirit of Solidarity, Innovation - Creativity, Efficiency.

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Phan Thi Ha Duong - Director of Vingroup's Innovation Fund (VinIF) presented a report on "Some complex methods of life" at the Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanics - Informatics.
Dr. Le Hong Phuong, Head of Data Science Department, VNU-HUS introduced a number of problems and typical examples drawn from his personal experiences starting to learn about the field of Mathematical Finance.
Safety and security issues of embedded systems were introduced by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga (ESILV of Pôle Léonard de Vinci University of Technology, Paris, France) at the Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanics - Informatics.
Professor Laurent Prévot, Director of the Center for Research in Speech and Language at Aix Marseille University gave an introductory lecture on conversational language processing issues, emphasizing the exploitation of linguistic features.
