On July 23, 2021, the Organizing Committee of the International Mathematics Olympiad 2021 (IMO 2021) announced the results of this year's contest. Accordingly, all six Vietnamese contestants won medals, including one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
On July 19, 2021, the Education Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training in collaboration with VNU University of Science held the opening ceremony of the International Mathematics Olympiad 2021.

Quacquarelli Symonds released the 18th edition of the QS World University Rankings 2022 (QS WUR 2022) on June 9, 2021. In this edition, besides Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) – the two Vietnamese institutions featured for the fourth consecutive year, Ton Duc Thang University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology were ranked for the first time.

On June 2, 2021, the Times Higher Education (THE) released the ranking of the best universities in Asia in 2021. Accordingly, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is listed in Group 251 - 300 for the second year running and ranked first among Vietnamese higher education institutions.

According to the Quality Control Department (Ministry of Education and Training), on the evening of May 26th, at the 2021 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad, all six Vietnamese participants won prizes with two gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Before that, on May 24th, the 2021 Asian Physics Olympic also ended. Eight students from the Vietnam’s national team won two gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals, two certificates of merit.
