On August 18, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and the Southeast Asian University Network (AUN) co-organized an international conference on "Mapping the quality of higher education" and introduced the Vietnam-developed ranking system called “University Performance Metrics” (UPM), and announced the first ranking results for 28 Vietnamese and ASEAN educational institutions .
Nguyen Hoang Duong, an 11th grader from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students was one of the four Vietnamese gold medalists at the 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2020).

Kurita Water and Environment Foundation has just announced their sponsorship for 11 research topics in Vietnam in 2020. Each is given 400.000 JPY, equals 88 million VND or US$ 3.818. One of the sponsored topics belongs to Đào Thị Hương, a graduate student in VNU University of Science (VNU – HUS).

Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), for the first time, features in Group 101-150 global young universities with top education quality in the QS Top 50 Under 50 University Rankings 2021 published on June 24, 2020. This ranking also lists VNU - Ho Chi Minh City and thus, featuring both national universities of Vietnam.
