HUS – Ibaraki Summer School 2025: Connecting Knowledge, Spreading Friendship

From September 16–19, 2025, the VNU University of Science (VNU-HUS) and Ibaraki University jointly organized the HUS–Ibaraki Summer School 2025 in Hanoi for students from Ibaraki University, Japan. This is an annual activity that has been maintained for many years, contributing to the promotion of cultural and academic exchange between students of the two universities. In the near future, Ibaraki University will host a delegation of HUS students for the Summer School in Ibaraki.

Each year, VNU-HUS and Ibaraki University maintain exchange and summer internship programs, offering students the opportunity to study, interact, and gain practical experience. These programs form an important foundation for promoting sustainable cooperation while expanding the international academic space for students.

Notably, this year’s program not only included students from VNU-HUS and Ibaraki University but also welcomed participants from the University of Toulon, the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), who are currently studying and conducting research at VNU-HUS.

An exchange session between international students and VNU-HUS students as part of the HUS–Ibaraki 2025 Summer Internship.

This year’s Ibaraki student participants came from a variety of majors, including Urban and Civil Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Systems, and Electrical and Electronic Systems.

At VNU-HUS, they attended specialized lectures delivered by lecturers from the Faculty of Geology, Faculty of Physics, and Faculty of Chemistry; explored the Biology Museum – one of the university’s most distinctive academic spaces; and enjoyed cultural and academic exchanges with VNU-HUS and international students studying there.

Dr. Pham Gia Bach from the Faculty of Chemistry shared his lecture titled “Gold Nanoparticles and Aptamers in Analytical Chemistry: A Dynamic Duo for Detection.”

Alongside the academic activities, the program offered rich cultural experiences, including visits to the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam, Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and Trang An – Ninh Binh, as well as opportunities to enjoy Vietnamese cuisine. Many Ibaraki students shared that every activity left them with unforgettable memories, helping them gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese people and culture.

Sharing their thoughts about the course, Ibaraki University students said the summer internship was an amazing experience where they were warmly welcomed and had the chance to connect with friends from around the world. “The lectures were creative and engaging, helping us learn a lot and grow personally,” they shared.

At the closing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngac An Bang, Vice Rector of VNU-HUS, emphasized the significance of the program: “The summer internship is not only a bridge of knowledge but also an opportunity for Vietnamese and Japanese students to meet, share, and build lasting friendships.”He expressed his hope that the friendship formed during these short but meaningful days will continue to grow and spread in the future.

Prof. Dr. Masafumi Fujita, Chairman of the International Exchange Committee at Ibaraki University, also expressed heartfelt gratitude to VNU-HUS for organizing such a meaningful program:

“The summer internship has given Ibaraki students invaluable experiences—both academically and culturally. These memories will be a cherished part of their learning and personal development journey.”

He also expressed his desire to welcome VNU-HUS students to Ibaraki in upcoming exchange programs.
